This is just a congratulations to those cadets who've made it on 180's Drill Team for 2010:

- WO2 Yuan
- FSgt Garbrah
- Sgt Bhardwaj
- Sgt King
- Sgt Li
- Sgt Shi
- FCpl Genovese
- FCpl He
- FCpl Kosnik
- FCpl Wei

Mr Cheng and Mr Saroea are the Drill Team instructors for the year. If you're one of the cadets above, make sure that you show up to every Sunday practice. 180 has a strong tradition to uphold, and the 16 of you have to work hard to meet that standard by March.

180 Drill Team 2009

Gliding
Not a team, but it's happening this Saturday (3 Oct) at 11 am. We'll meet at Denison Armoury (map) at 11 am and return by 6 pm. If you are new to the Sqn, you must have the paperwork filled out and handed in (180 Recruit Application Package). Sign-ups for this trip will be this Friday at the end of the night. If you're interested in aviation, or just never been in a glider or small plane, definately sign-up. We may be stopping at McDonald's on the way up, so if you want to eat there, bring some money.

Drill Team Tryouts
180's Drill Team begins tryouts this Sunday (4 Oct) starting at 6 pm sharp (finishing at 9 pm) in full uniform. The tryouts will be held at Denison Armoury (map), and it's suggested cadets be there at 5:30 pm so they have time to change and get ready. All cadets are welcome to attend, and 15 will be chosen to be on the team. If you make it on the team, practices continue Every Sunday from 6 to 9 pm. Good luck!

Sports
We start regular sports nights this Monday in preparation for the 618 Sqn Sports Competition at the end of November, and for more competitions in the winter and spring. Whether you're the athletic type or just want to come and have a good time (or both), be at Glenview from 6:30 to 9:30 pm. We'll be playing all different types of sports, and concentrating on putting teams together for Volleyball, Basketball and European Handball for the competition.

Band
Band is still accepting new members, so if you're interested in joining, come to Glenview this Saturday at 10 am (finishes at 4 pm). All cadets are free to join, and can be part of the band when we do Christmas parades and the competitions in the Spring. Don't know how to play an instrument? We'll teach you...

Evolve Challenge

Was a Great Weekend
Two big things happened this weekend... Firstly, the Sqn raised a lot of cash during tagging. Good job to all the cadets who came out and fund-raised for the Sqn. The money we raised allows us to fund all our trips and supplies for 180.

Also, 180 Sqn participated in the Evolve Challenge, a weekend event where six cadets trained on the Saturday, and took part in a 4 hour race on the Sunday. The race involved canoeing, running, orienteering and mountain biking. Good job to (in order of the photo above): Cpl Kong, FCpl Stephens, Sgt Bhardwaj, FCpl Kosnik, Cpl Matthews and LAC Shoot.

Thanks to Evolve Tours for putting on (and inviting us to) the Evolve Challenge and to impossible2Possible for sponsoring us to go.

Pilot Ground School
Starting on Tuesday, September 29th, from 6:30 to 9:30 pm, classes start at Glenview for cadets interested in learning more about aviation. The course runs every Tuesday until December. Topics covered are: Theory of Flight, Air Rules, Meteorology, Airmanship, Radio and Navigation.

These classes are mandatory for cadets applying for the Glider and Power Pilot Scholarship in 2010, and highly recommended for cadets who plan on applying later on. Cadets taking the course must be at least 14 years old.
