Every year, from Boxing Day to New Year's Eve, the Toronto Air Group runs an Air Cadet Christmas Training Course (TAG CTC). It's encouraged that all cadets attend, and it's an opportunity to increase your training, have fun, and meet and interact with cadets from other squadrons. It also beats sitting on the couch eating turkey left-overs for six days... Here's what you can take:

Basic Course
Cadets learn general cadet knowledge, brush up on their basic drill, fire air rifles, and play sports. This course is aimed at new cadets who have not done any CTC or summer courses, and are not yet LACs.

Junior Course
This course introduces cadets to leadership, doing taskings, and teaching drill. This course is aimed at cadets have done the basic course (summer or CTC), or are LACs or above.

Senior Course
This course teaches more advanced leadership, and focuses on teaching classroom instruction. This course is aimed at cadets who have done the junior course, a 3-week summer course, or are Cpls or above.

Flying Scholarship Review Course
This course reviews everything that has been learned in the 180 Pilot Ground School Course, and is a good preperation for the enterance exam in January. This course is aimed at cadets applying for glider or power for 2009, or cadets from the 180 PGS course who are 15 or over and intend on applying next year.

Band
Cadets learn about and brush up on their military band skills, and get a taste of being in a combined service band. This course is for any cadets who are either in 180's band or have played an instrument for at least a year. Cadets must have a standard concert instrument (ie school instrument), 180 brass instruments are not compatible.

General Info
- Cadets must be at Fort York Armoury (map and directions here), in uniform, by 9 am on Friday, December 26th. Each day is 9 to 5:30. Cadets finish on Wednesday, December 31st by 3 pm.
- Cadets must have full uniforms including parkas to attend. All parts are now available at supply to all cadets.
- Cadets must bring their own packed lunch on each of the six days.
- Cadets must have the permission forms completed and ready to hand in upon arrival on the first day. Permission forms will be handed out this Friday, or are available by clicking here.

WO2 Ramsay - Top Cadet

Congratulations WO2 Ramsay!
On Saturday, recently retired WO2 Ramsay was awarded the Air Cadet League's Air Cadet of the Year award. Among her many achievements at 180 Sqn, her nomination for the award included her recent summer appointment of Camp Chief Warrant Officer of the Trenton Air Cadet Summer Training Centre, where she was in charge of over a thousand cadets. Good job!

Borden Weekend Coming Up...
Survival Weekend may have been cut short by the torrential downpour, but Borden weekend is looking to be slightly less wet (and at least we're in more water-proof tents this time). The weekend will include repelling, target shooting, the obstacle course, sports and more. If you were at the CO's Parade on Friday you had a chance to sign up. If not, you might be able to sign up during calling, however you must have had a valid excuse for not being at the CO's parade. The warning order will follow...

More Congratulations
Air Combat Zone

Congratulations to those cadets who got promoted on Friday. If you were expecting a promotion but didn't get it, make sure to ask your superiors why so you can improve yourself for next time.

We also had a number of cadets go gliding on Saturday. If you missed it, the next gliding sessions will be in the Spring.

Lastly, 15 cadets attended our second annual Air Combat Zone trip. The cadets had a chance to learn the basics of a CF-18, watch related movies, practice on the PC simulators, and then step into a cockpit and have a virtual dogfight. Congratulations to Sgt Lalsingh who was clearly the best fighter pilot at the final challenge.

Survival & Borden

Survival Weekend

On October 24 - 26, the Sqn will be going on it's Fall Survival Weekend. Everyone is encouraged to go! It's going to be an awesome weekend making campsites, hiking through the bush, some games and Capt Carfagnini's famous chicken... The warning order will go online next week...

CO's Parade
The Friday right after Survival (October 31st) is the biggest cadet night of 2008, where we set the Sqn's NCO positions for the rest of the training year. This means we're promoting NCOs and Cadets, so if you want to advance in the Sqn, make sure you're working hard.

Borden Weekend
On November 7 to 9, we're going up to CFB Borden for a weekend of repelling, sports, firing rifles and competing against each other on a military obstacle course. Stay tuned for more info, it's going to be fun!
