For current information for summer course applicants, check out the Summer Course Information Updates blog.
Air Cadet Summer ProgramEvery summer, thousands of cadets in Ontario attend various courses (commonly called “camps”) at cadet training centres and colleges across the province and many are sent to locations across the country and internationally. 180 Sqn normally sends around 60 to 70 cadets every year to the various training centres. Summer courses range from the 2-week General Training Course (GTC), to 3-week introductory courses, and to 6-week advanced courses. Aside from GTC, all the courses focus on an aspect of the cadet program, such as leadership, outdoor survival, sports, music and aviation. Most cadets on 2-3 week courses will go to CFB Trenton (2.5 hours east of Toronto) or CFB Borden (1 hour north of Toronto). Summer courses are free and transportation to all training centres is provided. As well, clothing (hat, shirt, shorts, running shoes) are issued by 180 Sqn in May. More Info:
Course Dates 2-Week General Training (Trenton) - 18 July to 30 July 2010 3-Week Courses (Trenton & Blackdown) - 25 July to 14 August 2010
There are some course intakes available before and after the above dates. Contact Cpl Sandoval if you can only go on one of these other intakes. Cadets going to other courses or training centres can request their course dates from Cpl Sandoval.
Who is eligible for summer courses? All cadets in 180 Sqn who joined or will join before 31 Jan 2010 are eligible to apply for summer training. Cadets joining after 1 Feb 2010 are NOT eligible for summer training in 2010.
Cadets 14 and under (as of 31 Aug 2010) who have not gone onto a summer course previously may only apply for the 2-week General Training Course.
Spots are limited on 3-week and 6-week courses, so priority is given out on the basis of rank and seniority in the Sqn.
How to Apply Registrations for summer 2010 are now CLOSED. The main registration period was held in December and late registrations were accepted until February 5th. Note that applicants registered after the December registrations will be on the waiting list for summer courses.
