Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) is the term used to describe cadets in the squadron who are in leadership or instructional positions. After a cadet has been active in the squadron for roughly 2 to 4 years, and shows good drill, dress, deportment and leadership ability, he or she may be promoted to the rank of Sergeant, the first NCO rank. At this point, the new NCO has the authority to command others, teach classes, be a team commander and may have many other responsibilities. The actions and attitude of an NCO are very important, and so the chain of command keeps checks to ensure each NCO is supervised and responsible to a superior cadet or officer.
